Collision Avoidance Sensor (CAS)

Areté Associates' patented Collision Avoidance System (CAS) is employed on the United States Marine Corp's Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV). The CAS, utilizing Areté Associates’ Streak Tube Imaging LIDAR system (STIL), provides advanced warning of obstacles in front of the EFV.

The CAS capabilities include detection and localization of floating obstacles at significant standoff ranges, detection of shallow bottoms at modest ranges, and detection of submerged objects at close ranges. Maneuverability and crew survival is greatly enhanced by the CAS. In addition to own-ship obstacle avoidance, localized threat information from the on-board sensor is transmitted and integrated into a common operational picture, allowing route optimization for following vehicles, and data for subsequent threat neutralization.
