Areté Associates has over twenty years of experience modeling, developing, designing, integrating, and testing passive electro-optical systems, ranging from small- to large-format focal planes in the visible through long-wave imaging bands. Platforms for these systems include the MQC-6-300 "Twin Otter", Scan Eagle and the Bell H1.  Areté has a diversified engineering team, state of the art facilities, tools for the development of these systems, and an optical engineering facility that is ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified.

Areté Associates has successfully integrated passive electro-optical systems or managed systems, responsible for the system engineering, design, test, and program management for the following manned and unmanned platforms:
     •   Large format visible, MWIR, LWIR, multispectral, and polarized systems on the Twin Otter (demonstration
          system).
     •   Large format multispectral systems on the Huey rotary wing platform (demonstration system).
     •   Large format multispectral systems for the Northrup Grumman Firescout (operational system).
     •   Visible digital camera and recording system on the Insitu ScanEagle (demonstration system).

Areté Associates has also developed a proprietary fast scan mirror technology that has been combined with both visible and MWIR camera systems to achieve rapid step-stare capabilities dramatically increasing coverage rates. Additional applications include:
     •   Hostile Fire, Indication & Countermeasure
     •   IR Countermeasure
 
Over the past twenty years the following passive electro-optical capabilities have been developed:
     •   First principles system modeling and simulation.
     •   Requirements driven system engineering
     •   Optical engineering designing custom lens for visible through IR .
     •   Mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering developing systems from subsurface ocean to
          high altitude platforms.
     •   Software engineering, embedded system design and high speed ruggedized airborne data recorders.
     •   Optical test supporting visible through LWIR systems, including: Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), distortion,
          radiometric data, vacuum and thermal characterization
