Areté Associates has significant experience in the development of Ground Processing Stations for image processing applications. Areté designed and built several image processing systems for multiple DOD programs including the Navy Coastal Battlefield Reconnaissance and Analysis (COBRA) program, the Navy Airborne Littoral Reconnaissance Technologies (ALRT) program, and the Army’s Airborne Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Minefield Detection System (ASTAMIDS) program. Detailed technical knowledge is applied in the design and implementation of image processing hardware running CMMI Level 3 Open Architecture software. Interaction with military operators early in the design phase allows the development of highly usable and efficient operator interfaces. Areté designed and delivered multiple COBRA Post Mission Analysis (PMA) stations (Figure 1) during the COBRA Spiral B program and is under contract to deliver additional systems under COBRA Block 1 Production. The COBRA PMA station processes multispectral imagery captured by the COBRA payload onboard the Fire Scout VTUAV providing minefield, obstacle /fortification, and littoral bathymetry / currents products to the operator and ultimately disseminated to the Mine Warfare and Environmental Decision Aids Library Enterprise Architecture (MEDAL-EA).
