Areté can exploit it's extensive diode-pumped solid-state laser development history and experience to produce custom laser designs for a wide variety of demanding applications. Current designs span a wide performance range from the ultraviolet to the short wave infrared. One example of a custom design includes a UV laser for Raman spectroscopy operating at 236nm based on 4th harmonic generation of YAG lasers operating on the fundamental at 946nm. The laser will produce 7mJ at a repetition rate of 25Hz and a pulse width of approximately 50ns. In contrast the group has produced a 100W variable-pulse format laser for remote sensing. The laser has a nominal 1 kHz repetition rate operating at 1064nm wavelength.

Meeting demanding performance goals of applications require a thorough understanding of laser design tradeoffs and a full complement of engineering skills brought together with a coordinated systems perspective. Areté’s design process derives from a careful examination of performance requirements which are used to produce subsystem requirements. Design tradeoffs are examined and decisions made using technical criteria based on modeling and simulation results. Designs are periodically reviewed as appropriate prior to fabrication. Thorough performance testing and validation follow. Complete acceptance testing is included in all laser designs.
